Liqueurs are sweetened spirits such as whisky, brandy, grappa, rum, tequila, gin etc that are flavoured with either fruits, nuts, dairy, chocolate or coffee. Usually less than 40% ABV. liqueurs can be drunk neat,

on the rocks, with added fruits or as ingredients for cocktails.   Aperifs are used as pre-dinner drinks whilst digestives are taken after dinner.  Vermouth are wine based herbal liqueurs drunk on their own or in cocktails.
