It’s BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU TIME! Every year, on the 3rd Thursday of November, wine-lovers gather to celebrate the vintage with Beaujolais Nouveau – the first wine of the season! This young wine is a uniquely fresh and fruity wine – made from the Gamay grape and bottled only 6-8 weeks after the harvest. It is made using whole-berry carbonic maceration, which draws out the intensely fruity flavours with less bitter tannins and intended for enjoyment while young.

Beaujolais-Villages is considered fuller bodied than ‘regular’ Beaujolais Nouveau. It is a more complex wine for connoisseurs looking for a singular expression of primeur Gamay. It is sourced from the same 38 villages of the Beaujolais-Villages A.O.C where there are more granite and schist in the terroir compared to Beaujolais AOC.

Beaujolais Nouveau wines show definite variation between vintages, and as such are considered to be an early indicator of the quality of the year’s regional wine harvest.

Tasting Note

A deep, garnet-red colour. Sublime fruity aromas with notes of red and black berries: crushed raspberries, blackcurrants and cherries. A luscious, fruity texture that’s sure to win you over!

About Les Vins Georges Duboeuf

Les Vins Georges Duboeuf was established in 1964, and is one of the largest and best-known wine merchants in France. The founder, Georges Duboeuf himself is almost single-handedly responsible for popularizing the annual Beaujolais Nouveau phenomenon.

What is not commonly known is that Georges created a group of producers, “L’Ecrin Maconnais-Beaujolais”, that represented over 40 winemakers from all appellations of the region.
This allowed him to offer wines that reflected the great diversity of the surrounding vineyards.
