Description:
This dry, still white wine is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in northeastern Italy—specifically the vineyards of Lison Pramaggiore and Grave del Friuli in Friuli‑Venezia Giulia. These sites are characterized by two main terroir types—clay and calcareous soils—across plains and gently rolling hills. Grapes are harvested and gently pressed, then the must is cold-settled and undergoes cryomaceration to preserve fresh aromatic components (like herbaceous and green pepper notes). Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, and the wine ages on fine lees for several months for texture and complexity; after bottling it receives additional micro-oxidative refinement in the bottle before release.
Sommelier Notes, Rating/Awards & Food Pairings Suggestions
Balan Sauvignon Blanc offers a textbook expression of cool-climate Italian Sauvignon Blanc. The wine balances fresh herbal aromatics with a clean, mineral-driven structure. Sommeliers often highlight its vibrant acidity, aromatic precision, and approachable elegance, making it a versatile food wine. The use of cryomaceration and lees aging adds a refined texture without overpowering the grape’s natural vibrancy. Best served chilled, in youthful form to capture its aromatic freshness.
