Woodlands Wilyabrup Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – Merlot 2018

A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 8% Malbec, 6% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, matured in French oak (5% new) for 14 months.

Black as night in colour with a very deep dark red black tinged hue. Sailing out of the glass are aromatics of ripe blackcurrants, subtle liquorice and mulberry fruits which meld into notions of dusty vanillin cedar, spicy tobacco and bay leaf notes. Boasting excellent intensity, the palate is a marriage of rich blackcurrant fruit, finesse and elegance. Mulberry, dusty vanillin cedar, cigar box, black olive and spicy bay leaf elements also chime in for added complexity. Fine grained, yet tightly knit tannins provide a sturdy underbelly. Finishes long, refined and dusty.

94 points – The Wine Front

Exuberant blackcurrant, blackberry and red cherry aromas and flavours. Soft velvety tannins and lively acidity. Ideal with roasted duck, BBQ ribs or slow cooked lamb.

About Woodlands Wines

Established in 1973 by David & Heather Watson on Caves Road in Wilyabrup, Woodlands was one of the first five vineyards to be planted in the Margaret River Wine Region. Woodlands vineyards are dry grown and maintained by hand using traditional methods. In the winery, all Woodlands wines spend up to two years in the finest French oak barrels. Each wine is made with minimal intervention, and is carefully blended by the Watson family. Aiming to create wines to emulate the great vineyards of Bordeaux, Woodlands is one of only ten Margaret River wineries with the highest possible rating from James Halliday, and the Woodlands Cabernet Sauvignon rated ‘Outstanding’ in the Langton’s Classification of Fine Wines.
