Highly acclaimed Saint James in Martinique produces the widest range of Agricultural Rums (rhum agricole) made from pure freshly pressed sugar cane juice, yielding an intensely grassy, herbaceous, and fruit-forward profile. Established in 1765, it is the oldest rhum distillery on Martinique, third oldest in the world and possibly the most awarded rum distillery globally. Following strict AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) guidelines very bottle is pressed and distilled on-site using estate-grown sugar cane from the volcanic soils of Martinique. This guarantees a unique “terroir” that can’t be replicated by industrially produced rums. Rhum Agricole from Martinique is the only rum in the world given Appellation Control status making it the World’s Best Aged Rums.
This intense flavoured of Agricole Rhums account for only 1 to 2 % of all rums produced worldwide. The Appellation Controlled Rhum ie AOC Martinique follow very strict rules that demand no added flavours, no colouring and aged in oak cask, using the same quality standards as that of French Cognacs.
