Hammerhead 23 Years Single Malt Whisky – Czech Republic
Whisky that straddles history. Distilled in 1989 behind the “Iron Curtain” when the Czech Republic was part of Czechoslovakia. This single malt is a vintage release distilled at the Prádlo Distillery before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Hammerhead 1989 is distilled from malted Czech barley that was then milled using a hammer mill, hence the name. After 23 years maturing in casks of Czech oak, it’s bottled at 40.7% ABV
PALATE: Mixed cereal grains, black licorice candies, oak tannins and dried fruits, and a bit of citrus oil.
FINISH: Savory herbs (sage), mellow oak tannins, and licorice pastels. ABV: 40.7%, 700ml
About Hammerhead
Distilled at the state owned Pradlo distillery in Czechoslovakia, it was put in to Czech oak casks. Then the global political landscape changed in a sudden and drastic way… and this single malt was forgotten.
