On the nose an intense potpourri of dark fruit, cherry jam, acacia wood, later some leather, mint, red berries, strawberries, amarena cherry. Ripe, full and dense in the mouth with complex cherry aromas, subtle herbal notes, fine wood, vanilla, balsamic notes, soft tannins and wonderfully integrated Italian-style acidity. Long warming aftertaste. Already ready to drink but with plenty of potential for many years to come. This great Tuscan is now just beginning to open up.
The Merlino is one of those Italians that immediately puts a smile on the face of every fan of the region. You spontaneously look at the bottle again and wonder: ‘That’s just Merlot?’. Yes, that’s just Merlot and it’s fascinating what the Fanucci brothers tease out of this grape variety. Great cinema for the palate!
