Villa Matilde Fusonero 2015

Montemarano and Paternopoli, both in Avellino province, yield the pure Aglianico grapes for this intense Taurasi DOCG. Villa Matilde’s Taurasi Fusonero, a standout among Southern Italy’s red wines, presents a captivating deep red hue. Its rich bouquet, crafted from sun-kissed grapes and a judicious use of cellar woods, offers complex berry notes with hints of liquorice and violet. On the palate, it’s austere yet expansive, supported by refined tannins. Enjoyable now, yet also promising a rewarding aging potential for special occasions.

The nose reveals a rich and refined bouquet, due to the aromatic complexity of the initial grapes, which have enjoyed the benefits of a particularly generous sun, but also to the wise use of different woods in the cellar. Notes of berries, red and black, dominate, made more complex by touches of liquorice and violet. In the mouth it is austere, broad and complex, thanks also to its lovely tannins, present but well blended.
