West Cape Howe Tempranillo 2009
Our winery is named after the magnificent landmark on the South Coast of Western Australia. The rugged coastline is home to some stunning beaches and great rock climbing sites.
Tempranillo is an exciting red variety of Spanish origin now grown in Western Australia. The wine has rich, textured palate combining raspberry and cherry fruit characters with savoury spice and licorice. Bottled under screwcap, this wine can be enjoyed now or with up to 5 years bottle age. – Gavin Berry (Winemaker)
NOSE: Has a generous aromas of dark berry fruits with some dark plum and rhubarb characters. This fruitiness is tempered by the dusty oak characters picked up during its maturation period.
PALATE: This is a medium bodied wine with loads of rich, red fruit flavours. Quite tightly structured, it has dark cherry, cranberry and pomegranate characters. As is typical of Frankland Tempranillo, it has good structure; it's nicely drying with slightly dusty tannins balancing the fruit flavours and, together with the light acidity, all combine to give the wine its great length of flavour on the palate. Vibrant and youthful, it can be enjoyed now with a well flavoured meal or cellar for a couple more years for further complexity.
