Casa Ferreirinha Callabriga 2019 Red Wine – Duoro, Portugal
Callabriga is one of the most innovative wines of Casa Ferreirinha; its intensity and elegance reflecting the versatility and passionate modernity of the region’s wines. This wine has an aroma of good complexity, which reveals prominent components of red and wild fruit, alongside hints of asparagus and artichoke, undertones of truffle and forest floor, and additional notes of dried fruits, such as almonds, hazelnuts and figs. An aroma of incredibly well-integrated high-quality wood is also present. This wine is lively on the palate, with a balanced acidity, tannins of excellent quality, splashes of red fruit, hints of spices and a long finish of great harmony.
The hand-picked grapes, chosen from the plots with a better-balance of ripening were vinified at Quinta da Leda?s winery. After full de-stemming and soft crushing they were taken to stainless steel tanks and/or robot-operated presses where fermentation took place with prolonged maceration and pumping-over under controlled temperatures. A long post-fermentation maceration ensued, with the aim of obtaining the finest aromatic extraction, which enabled the transfer of the grape skin quality components into the wine. Callabriga was taken to Vila Nova de Gaia between October and December, and its maturation went on for about a year in used, French (90%) and American (10%), oak barrels. The final blend was prepared from a qualitative selection made after many tastings, which made it possible to choose the best wines, by barrel and grape variety. The final blend underwent a slight filtering prior to bottling.

About Casa Ferreirinha
The Douro region is one of the oldest Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) regions in Portugal’s wine growing history. Over 250 years old, it is located in north-eastern Portugal along the Douro River Valley. Founded by Bernardo Ferreira, whose formula was refined by his descendants, especially his granddaughter Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, known affectionately as “Ferreirinha” or “Ferreirinha-da-Régua”. The prestigious A.A. Ferreira company was acquired by Sogrape in 1987.Thorough knowledge of the Douro Superior, the features of its climate and soil, and carefully selecting the varieties to be used provided winemaker Luís Sottomayor and his team the basis for Casa Ferreirinha’s premium wines.
