Bongiovanni Barolo Pernanno 2018

S$135.00

Municipality of production: Castiglione Falletto.
The hillside where our Nebbiolo vines are located is divided by a fissure running from the top of the hill all the way down to the valley below, creating two zones. The area to the right of the town of Castiglione Falletto is the one of the historical centre around the castle, while to the left of the main road leading to Castiglione is “Pernanno”, with a south-east exposure. The yearly temperatures, rainfall and other weather condition will determine the amount of Barolo produced

Select Nebbiolo grape from one particular plot within Bongiovanni’s finest vineyard are left on the vines for several extra days after the regular Barolo is harvested. This decision is only made in outstanding vintages and gives the wine additoinal finesse, complexity and longevity.

Open wine bursting with the radiant personality of the vintage. Soft, supple and harmonious through to the finish, the Barolo caresses the palate with layers of floral, spiced fruit. Oak, roasted coffee bean and star anise aromas lead the nose. On the palate, notes of fennel, licorice, mocha and espresso lend depth to a core of dried cherry while firmly delineated tannins provide the framework. Pairs well with cheese, lamb, beef and game.

About Cascina Bongiovanni

Azienda Agricola Bongiovanni is a family-run company founded in 1950 by Giovanni Bongiovanni, grandfather of the current owner, Davide Mozzone. In 1950, when Nebbiolo was planted it struck gold, yet at that time the wines were sold to other wineries. Today, the vineyard management and winery technology is avant-garde, albeit respectful of tradition and terroir. The Bongiovanni philosophy aims at minimizing outside intervention and maximizing character and goût du terroir, steering clear of stereotyped wines. Hugely concentrated, luscious, muscly and full-bodied reds have reaped unanimous accolades.

Bongiovanni is a sustainable winery.
