Casa Ferreirinha Vinha Grande Douro 2018

S$52.00

Winemaking:
The grapes were hand-picked and vinified using advanced technology. After soft crushing and de-stemming they fermented in stainless steel tanks, with long macerations and pumping-over, under controlled temperature. It was taken to Vila Nova de Gaia between October and December, where its maturation took place for about a year in used French oak barrels. The blend was then made from a selection based on the numerous tastings and analyses carried out during this period and slightly filtered prior to bottling.

Grape Varieties:
Touriga Nacional,Touriga Franca,Tinta Roriz,Tinta Barroca

Tasting Notes:
Ruby red with purple tinges colour. The aroma is intense, predominantly redcurrant and plum, along with spice, resin and cedar, all very well integrated with subtle oak. It is a well balanced wine with firm, well-textured tannins and bright, attractive acidity. Its finish is very long and harmonious.

Store and Serve Advices:
While it may be drunk young, it benefits from a 2-to-3 year ageing in bottle, reaching its peak between the fifth and sixth year after the vintage. It will, however, remain in perfect condition for about 10 to 15 years. The bottle should be kept horizontally, in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light. Vinha Grande Red should be opened before being served, so that it may breathe and develop to its full potential. With time it may develop a deposit. Serve between 16ºC-18ºC.

Food Pairing:
Excellent option to accompany traditional Portuguese cuisine, as well as a large variety of meat, cheese and robust pasta dishes. It should also be tried as an aperitif with cured and spicy cheeses.

An aroma of good intensity and complexity with prominent notes of red and black fruit, and hints of asparagus and artichokes. Spicy notes of black pepper and nutmeg mingle with aromas of well-integrated wood. On the palate, this full-bodied wine reveals a lively and balanced acidity, in addition to high-quality polished tannins, and notes of black fruit that invite a long and harmonious finish.

About Casa Ferreirinha

The Douro region is one of the oldest Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) regions in Portugal’s wine growing history. Over 250 years old, it is located in north-eastern Portugal along the Douro River Valley. Founded by Bernardo Ferreira, whose formula was refined by his descendants, especially his granddaughter Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, known affectionately as “Ferreirinha” or “Ferreirinha-da-Régua”. The prestigious A.A. Ferreira company was acquired by Sogrape in 1987.Thorough knowledge of the Douro Superior, the features of its climate and soil, and carefully selecting the varieties to be used provided winemaker Luís Sottomayor and his team the basis for Casa Ferreirinha’s premium wines.
